Why am I paying for unlimited online usage? My cell phone bill is way more then it should be. I have just picked up the bad habit to use my iPhone for everything.
And I really don't need access to anything for the seven to eight hours I'm sleeping. It is convenient to have on during work hours to quickly check email. But would it be worth it to go into "blank stare" look while you're supposed to be at work? I don't really need to check if someone new friended me in the middle of the day. And no email is that important that the person couldn't call me. And do I really have to be accessible 24/7?
I may experience withdrawals!
Maybe I'll put the money I save each month in a travel account?
Wish me luck!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step.
Interesting thoughts. When I was laid off last October, I switched to a 'pay as you go' cell service. So far, the initial $100 deposit has lasted nearly 5 months. My contract fees were $40/month, so already I've 'saved', or not spent, $100. I think that it takes discipline to think through why you are actually using various devices and services - ie for what purpose. In my curmudgeonly manner, I became suspicious when all the service 'improvements' were for entertainment rather than utility. Sometimes you have to ask the question: do I need this or do I want this? Either answer is OK.
at think that is a sensible idea.
My new phone is only a week old and already I see that I am constantly checking it for new messages and comments etc. I can see how these things are addictive.
I hear you Jim! I just got a new Verizon4 iPhone. I was leaving it on all night but after a few FaceTime calls that woke me up out of a deep RIMM sleep, I turned it off. I still have unlimited Internet usage (a been from signing up last week) so I'll keep it. Prior to this I had a TracFone and I didn't think I needed to replace it. Oh how wrong I was, I use my iPhone for just about everything now. I AM ADDICTED!
Re-evaluation is a good idea, Jim. What Will wrote is exactly what I feel, too.
Besides, I don't want everyone to know where I am 24/7. The tracfone is used primarily for work and emergencies.
A travel account sounds good, too.
I really like your honest, down to earth blog Jim, its amusing too. My goal is keeping the travel and pension piggy bank full.
You have to stay focussed to achieve this and sticking with a cheap prepaid plan and phone helps me stay on the cost cutting path. I actually use the Net10 $25/750 min. plan and use a $60 LG900G which has a reasonably fast web browser.
I don't want to get addicted to an iphone as I think they cost a heck of a lot of money monthly and I don't want to be in bondage for 2 years with extra hidden fee's in the shocker statement and have overages or cancellation fee's to contend with.
What would you choose? a cruize to the Caribbean for a week at the end of a year thanks to big savings using a cheap prepaid phone and plan or an iphone for a year and no cruize?
Can you cut down on minutes? I only got the 400 minute plan, because I never use them and they roll over.
and I don't have unlimited data, because I never use that much on my phone.
